The Godly line continues
Scripture: Gen 4:25, 26
1. The godly line was granted by God through the birth of Seth. 25a
God has granted me another child.
- Adam and Eve wanted another son to carry on the godly line, through whom God’s promise of a Savior would be fulfilled.
- When the son came, both Adam and Eve knew that God had answered their prayer. They knew their son would be the godly seed through whom the line of godliness continues. And ultimately the savior of the world would come through this line.
2. God has granted another child in the place of Abel. 25b
- They knew clearly that Cain’s line would not have the savior
- They knew Seth was in the order of Abel
- Lets look closely Eve’s attitude at Cain’s birth and Seth’s birth
- Gen 4:1 ï have brought forth a man”
- Gen 4:25 “God has granted me”
- B y this time, Eve has learnt dependence upon the Lord.
- God is not looking for men and women who is known for their strength, but for men and women who are known for their total dependence upon him.
3. The godly line recognized the frailty of mankind. 26a
- And he named him Enosh
- By this time the first parents and even Seth would have witnessed many sickness and deaths. So they named Enosh means Frail or weak
- A mud pot remains cool and composed by reminding its self that it is just a jar of clay.
- Godly will reflect the humility of their master Jesus
- Gen 4:23, 24 < > Gen 4:26
- While the worldly Caintes were boasting about their strengths and accomplishments, the godly Sethites were bringing glory to God through their godly lifestyle.
- While one line was building their own monuments, the other was becoming a godly
movement by depending on God for His glory.
- In godly line the parents decide to live for God, rather than living through their kids.
4. At that time men began to call on the name of the Lord. 26b
- Until now, inspite of being resourceful, most were indifferent to God. But through the
arrival of Enosh came the arrival of true worship again. Not just individual worship but
corporate worship
- Through out history it was the godly remnant that has kept the work of the Lord going in
this world.
- After the flood, it was godly Noah’s small family God used to populate the earth.
- In Elijah’s time, 1 Kings 19:9-ff; Elijah thought he alone is worshipping the true God. But God
replied to him that he has reserved 7000 who is fiercely loyal to him. A remnant will
continue to have a closer relationship with the Lord and in turn God blessed them to be
movement to mobilize His name and worship.
- In the midst of the culture of death, perversity, sensuality, violence, murder and moral
failures this godly line continues to worship God and Him alone.
The Godly line
- Continues to grow acknowledging their frailties
- Continues to grow in their dependence upon the Lord
- Continues to grow in their devotion and dedication to the Lord
- Continues to grow in worshipping with other devotes
- Continues to grow in making His name known in and through their lives
