LESSONS FROM SYROPHONECIAN WOMAN

Scripture: Matt 15: 21-29

1. JESUS WANTS US TO BE PERSISTENT WITH HIM. Vs 23

  • Jesus did not answer a word
  • His disciples wanted him to pack her off
  • Three times her request was rejected by Jesus, still she persisted and her request was sanctioned.
  • Winner never quit, quitters never win
  • Matt 7:7, 8
  • Keep keep on asking, seeking, knocking.
  • Luke 11:5-8; A friend at midnight
  • Luke 18:1-8; always pray and never give up
  • Ps 50:15;
  • Let us expect great things from God and attempt great things for God being persistent with Him.

2. WORSHIP JESUS FOR WHO HE IS. Vs. 25

  • But she came and worshiped him, pleading again, "Lord, help me!" (NLT)
  • Jesus did nothing for this woman
  • He kept on turning down her request.
  • In spite of that she came down and worshipped Him.
  • Worshipping before receiving is a different thing.
  • True faith is “if not faith” of Daniel 3:17, 18
  • In good times and bad times, in health and in sickness, in misery and prosperity out God remains same and He is worthy to be praised for who he is.
  • We are called to relate to this utterly holy and intensely personal God.
  • True worshippers fall in love with the person of this one and only God.

3. WE MUST ACCEPT JESUS’ VIEW ABOUT US. Vs.26

  • Jesus view about us keeps us humble.
  • In our view we get puffed up with pride, remember we don’t deserve anything in life, all what we are and what we have is due to Jesus.
  • We miss God due to our pride. We complain due to our pride
  • Learn gratitude from pet dogs they don’t complain not get upset with their master who feeds them.
  • The syrophonecian woman was humble enough to accept Jesus’ view about her and receive her blessing.
  • Are we humble enough all God has in store for us.

4. THE DAILY CRUMBS FROM THE MASTER’S TABLE ARE BETTER THAN OCCASIONALLY SITTING WITH THE MASTER ON THE TABLE.Vs. 27

  • Ps 84:10
  • One day spent in your house, this beautiful place of worship,
beats thousands spent on Greek island beaches.
I’d rather scrub floors in the house of my God
than be honored as a guest in the palace of sin.
  • We must at least have crumbs from the master on a daily basis.
  • Luke 16:19-31;
  • Lazarus received from God on a daily basis.
  •  “There once was a rich man, expensively dressed in the latest fashions, wasting his days in conspicuous consumption. A poor man named Lazarus, covered with sores, had been dumped on his doorstep. All he lived for was to get a meal from scraps off the rich man’s table. His best friends were the dogs who came and licked his sores. (MSG)
  • Even though Lazarus never enjoyed his earthly longings, he never missed the side of Abraham due to His heavenly longings.

5. JESUS IS INTENTIONAL IN HELPING US. Vs. 21, 29

  • 21 Then Jesus left Galilee and went north to the region of Tyre and Sidon.
  • 29 Jesus returned to the Sea of Galilee and climbed a hill and sat down.
  • Jesus left Galilee and came to this non Jewish region in order to bless this lady and then he returned to Galilee.
  • Even though it seemed to us and the disciples of Jesus that Jesus is not going to help her Jesus goes out of the way to help her.
  • Many unexpected situations pop us in our life as if Jesus is not going to help us but in reality Jesus has foreseen it and he will help us beyond our expectation in His time.
  • Gen 22; one side test is going on, on the other side solution is climbing up and that place is named Jehovah Jireh. Means He provides always in the place of obedience.
  • Gen 37-50; Life of Joseph. God saw to it…..Ephraim and Manasseh.
